AR7s - Tuskers Injury Woes

Four (4) Sri Lanka players got injured from the concluded Asia Rugby Sevens Series 1st leg. The second leg will commence on the 29th & 30th September at South Korea whilst Sri Lanka will host the final leg on 13th & 14th October 2018.

Two key players committed with the Tuskers have been injured from the first game which they played against China. Gayan Weerarathne (Hamstring+Ankle) and Kavindu Perera (Shoulder) helped Peter Woods team for the third place finish on Saturday (15th Aug).

Meanwhile, women's captain Sandika Hemakumari (knee) and the former captain Randika Kumudumali (Ankle) suffered from a severe blow. Captain Hemakumari's injury occurred during the first game against Kazakhstan while unfortunately Kumudumali got injured on the final few minutes of the Thailand game.  

However, according to the Tuskers team doctor Dr. Sankalpana said "Kavindu and Gayan will go through an MRI scan tomorrow and it doesn't look too bad but sadly Randika will have to go through an ankle surgery and most likely to miss the next 4-5 months out." It is also a doubt whether women's skipper will be recovered before the second leg. 

Earlier captain Sudarshana Muthuthanthri (Wrist) and Danushka Ranjan (Hamstring) got injured during the Asian Games which was held in Jakarta. Both the senior players making progress on recovery to strengthen the Tuskers ahead of the second leg, however, subject to the fitness test said trainer Nic Groube.

Nishon Perera is another player where Peter Woods is interest in bringing in to the squad. He too on recovery stage after from an ankle injury.
