AR7s - Sri Lanka on song over China

The Tuskers made an impressive start to beat China 31 - 00 in their opening game of the Asian Sevens Series first leg in Hong Kong. Next they play against Japan at 2.46 pm SL time

It was a very close encounter when Sri Lanka met China at the concluded Asian Games in Jakarta. It was a 17 - 12 win for the Tuskers in the cup quarterfinals. However, it was a different day as the youngsters debutant Dinuk Amerasinghe, Naveen Henakankanamage and Buddima Piyarathne who stepped up well in this game.

Sri Lanka stole the Chinese line-out and made some good yards through Naveen Henakankanamage, Kavindu Perera and Sudam Sooriarachchi with some silky off-loads. China is one the defensive ode since the kick-off and Dinuk Amerasinghe managed to turn-over the possession on the breakdown.

Captain Srinath Sooriyabandara with his dancing footwork found Amerasinghe once again who made two good fends and went on to score the first try. Skipper added the peach of a conversion. With the restart Sooriarachchi perfected his lower center of gravity to win another breakdown possession. Man of the moment Amerasinghe once again made some good yards to enter the opposite 22m.

Tuskers opted the scrum from penalty offense as a result Sooriyabandara worked the ball to his right and Sooriarachchi scored the try effortlessly with his footwork.

It was not a good restart as the kick was out on full. Nevertheless, Tuskers managed win another Chinese lineout to retain possession. Henakankanamage stood strong and escaped through three (3) tackles. China found wobbling in attack and lost the track o defense too. Danush Dayan with a wonderful line-out collection Kavindu Perera made a stunning distance and switched-passed to Supportive Sooriyabandra who scored the third try. 

Buddima Piyarathne who came off-the bench made his presence felt with his pace and after missing out his first opportunity he scored the try with a kick chase. After the full time hooter Tuskers managed to score a scintillating team try through Kevin Dixon in the left flank.
