Army SC Clinch Women's SAGT Rugby Sevens Title
The Army SC women's team clinched the inter clubs Women's rugby seven a side tournament by beating the fancied Navy SC by 19 points to 10 at the Havelock SC grounds on Sunday.
The Chief Commercial Officer of the SAGT Mr. Ted Muttiah graced the event as the Chief Guest. Around 100 Female players participated from 08 clubs in the tournament organized by Sri Lanka Rugby.
For Sri Lanka Rugby the main objective of this tournament was to provide more exposure to the players and also to select the Women's National Rugby pool for the forthcoming Asian 7's series competition.
SAGT's Chief Commercial Officer Ted Hiran Muttiah, presiding at the event as chief guest said "Women's rugby is the fastest growing team sport in the world today. Through SAGT's involvement, we've seen encouraging development of Women's rugby in Sri Lanka. Much work has been done and there is much more yet to do. Well done to Sri Lanka rugby (SLR) and all stakeholders involved in the development of Sri Lanka women's rugby. Let's move forward with this momentum and get more grass roots participation in the game".
He further added, "Sri Lanka's Women's rugby has enormous potential to feature prominently on the world stage. Evidently we have the talent to be in the top three countries in greater Asia. However, we need to built depth in our talent pool and SAGT is committed to support SLR to bring the Women's rugby program to maturation"
