Police SC put up a fantastic second half rally to beat the
Soldiers 50/27 in the Plate final.
Police opened scoring through Gihan Silva early in the first
half with Chandimal adding the extras. Soldiers hit back through nippy scrum
half, Mohamed Rizvi. Salinda added the extras to level the scores. Two
Madagedera penalty and Wijethilaka try took the Soldiers in to a steady lead at
20/7. Chandimal try scored a try to cut the deficit to 8 points at 12/20.
Fijian Emosi Vunivosa who had a grand game touched down and Sachith Silva added
the extras to take the short breather at 20/19 one point behind.
In the second half it was a major comeback by the Cops. They
scored through Gihan Silva, Chandimal and Sachith scored tries to take the lead
38/20. A try a piece from Sancjula and Chandimal took the Cops to half a
century score. Army scored one consolation try through Upul Abeyratna.
Police not only won the Plate but also secured 5th place
in the League securing a quarter final berth against CR & FC in the
Clifford Cup knock out rugby which will kick off next week.
