Uganda keep the winning record on Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka were unable to showcase their performance in the second half after a 10 - 12 down at the half time. Uganda scored three (3) tries in the last seven minutes to clatter the scoreline as they won 33 - 10.


Skills and thrills 

A promising start with a great kick-off collection by Danush Dayan which Sri Lanka capitalised possession. As a result yet again Danushka Ranjan cleared 60m for the first try at (0.34). Tarinda Ratwatte missed the conversion. Uganda hit back with an equaliser at (1.59) from the speedster Kisiga Timothy. Micheal Okorach the skipper of Uganda scored the second try at (4.08) which was converted by Philip Workorach. Final play before the half time Ranjan injected his pace and power for his forth try of the tournament, Ratwatte missed the extras.

It was only spills for the tuskers in the second half as too many unforced errors and kickoff/restarts retention woes. Uganda took advantage of the gifted opportunities to score three more tries to keep their 100% record in the commonwealth Games history with the fourth consecutive win. The try scorers were James Odongo (8.53), Adrian Kasito (9.56), Pius Ogena (11.36)

Reaction

"I'm frustrated with the number of errors and the missed tackles, we knew what would the threat going to be like and it is just the simple things we couldn't execute," Coach Peter Woods said after the game 

"Uganda are a good team played in the world series qualifiers last week in Hong Kong and they are playing since last November as a unit, we just assembled from first March, so we need to play more tournaments as a unit.

New Zealand will play England whilst the defending champions South Africa will fight against Fiji, winners will play the gold medal clash and the losers for the bronze.

Out of for groups top team of the each group will play in for the medal in teams who finished second in the group will play 5th - 8th place whilst bottom two teams in the group will be eliminated.
