Wales too good for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka lost the second game to Wales 42 - 12 at the Robina stadium. Wales led the half time 28 - 07 and will play Fiji later this evening for a spot in the semifinals.

Skills and Thrills

Wales started with a blitz but a valiant cover tackle by Sudam Sooriarachchi denied a try for the men in red. Sri Lanka in their 22m, Tarinda Ratwatte made a break with first receive from the scrum which saw some dynamism by Danushka Ranjan who was untouched by the Welsh as he scored the first try at (1.35). Tarinda Ratwatte converted to put 7 nil lead. Ranjan had yet another chance after stepping away with a 2 v 1 situation as Richard Dharmapala on his left, but decided to cut inside and lost possession with the tackle.

Wales pumped up some oil in their tank to score four tries which came through Ben Roach (3.18), Adam Thomas (4.36), Morgan Williams (6.01), Owen Jenkins (7.00) all converted by Davies Ethan. Sri Lanka lost two (2) restarts in contention and one was held up by the Wales physical power. Also Sri Lanka lost a scrum which was a crucial turnover.

HT : Sri Lanka 07 - 28 Wales

Sri Lanka with a lineout inside their 22m showed a lot of confidence as Kandy duo Dharmapala and Srinath Sooriyabandara made a lovely scissor. Sevens sensation Sooriyabandara ran 70m to score his first try in this tournament at (9.07). Ratwatte delayed the conversion and the referee did not allow to take it as he took more than 30 seconds.

Tuskers didn't have much say as their opponents capitalized on the mistakes to score two more tries. Ben Roach scored his second at (12.25) and Roach at (13.47) Davies nailed the uprights. Wales could have scored one more try but a sensational text book tackle by Kavindu Perera drew in to the sidelines.

Reaction

"We could have done better we missed few tackles in the first half that cost this game, we shouldn't be conceding four (4) tries in the first half," said Srinath Sooriyabandara

"We were confidence to score more than three tries game slipped away in the first half didn't have much option in the second half.
