Let's learn to play Rugby; the project reached the sandy
beaches of Kalutara, the next stop for the Platinum awards initiative to spread
Rugby across the country.
Kalutara is well known for its lovely beaches, hotels and
one of the biggest tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. The people of Kalutara
though never shy away from competitive sports, therefore the warm welcome and enthusiasm
shown to the organizers was anticipated and encouraging.
The
participation of the host school Kalutara Vidyalaya should be commended. 138 boys
actively were involved learning the game of rugby. Not far behind was Royal College Panadura (101 boys), followed by Deshanthara Balika Vidyalaya (13 girls), Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya (19 girls), Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya (11 boys, 18 girls), and
Katukurunda Dharamapala Maha Vidyalaya (18
girls). A total of 327 students participating were very productive and
encouraging.
Under
12, 14, 16, and 18 were the age categories. There were a number of invitees and
dignitaries present at the program. Coaches from Sri Lanka
Rugby conducted the introductory program.
