Despite
not seeing rugby for the last seven months, the much-awaited season is finally
set to commence shortly after Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) received approval from the
Health Ministry and other relevant authorities to conduct the inter club rugby
7s.
In
this regard, SLR has invited club representatives to attend the Tournament
Committee meeting scheduled for today (25) at the Institute of Sport Medicine
Unit. SLR have also asked all clubs to submit their answers to the following
questionnaire when attending the meeting.
Training
venue/location
Club
Manager’s name and his/her contact details.
Plans
and steps the clubs have undertaken to monitor the player’s 21-day home
quarantine
Transport
and training
SLR
have already informed clubs of health guidelines to be followed, and clubs
should make necessary arrangements to abide by the rules and regulations.
Club
7s is scheduled to be kicked-off in March with the participation of the top
eight clubs: Kandy SC, CR, CH,Havelocks, Navy, Police, Army and Air Force, but
it’s understood Kandy SC and CR and FC have not shown an interest to take part
in the tournament due to various reasons.
Sri
Lanka Air Force have undertaken the logistical part of the tournament, while
Dialog Axiata has already given their green light to sponsor the tournament,
which will be played for the Commanders Cup.
SLR
waited so long to get rugby back in to action, and it will be a great relief for
them to kick-off this tournament even under health guidelines.
