Sri Lanka Rugby(SLR) will make all efforts of securing the
all-important sponsors this week to run their stipulated rugby calendar, which
is to begin from end of October this year.
With the appointment of the new team officials headed by its
President, Rizly Illyas, they are to meet their main regular sponsor Dialog
Axiata to discuss and to obtain their support for the 2020/21 season. With a
herculean task on their shoulders, the SLR is pretty confident that Sri
Lanka's number one mobile service
operator will get on board to fulfill their aspirations to make a successful
season.
Speaking
to Daily News Illyas on Dialog’s partnership as main Sponsor, said that “I
believe that our main sponsor Dialog is a household name in rugby. I am pretty
confident that they will tie up in a big way to boost the game. We will seek
their assistance in setting up our new vision of “Change” in order to transform
the game to the next level.”
Dialog
Axiata have consistently supported SLR Men’s rugby since 2012 and this year
have strengthened their bond further with the game, with inclusion of school’s
rugby sponsorship . Illyas firmly believes that Dialog’s alliance with SLR will
play a pivotal role in positioning Dialog in the forefront of the telecom
industry.
It
is now up to Dialog’s to support SLR, in their endeavor of surging Sri Lanka
ahead to
be amongst the top three rugby playing
nations in Asia. The SLR is to present a budget to Dialog based on a new
looking programme drafted for the local tournaments, which includes rugby
development and development of provincial unions. The new incumbent Committee
which focuses mainly on the middle tier, which is based on junior rugby
starting from academy, under-21, 24, ‘B’ division and the multiple 7’s
tournaments. In order to achieve their targets successfully, while executing
their proposed change, SLR needs a power house to support its initiative. They
firmly believe that Dialog Axiata could provide that additional support
reaching
the
targets locally and internationally.
Meanwhile,
SLR with the involvement of the higher level management of their exco is
drawing up a detailed plan to address the much needed issues, especially in
relation to adding more value to their sponsor. This includes how to attract
large crowds or fan base for the matches, provision of brand exposure,
monetizing the rugby brand, merchandise are few to be named.
Illyas
says that he has a focused and committed committee who is to present these
matters best to their ability in achieving their goals. “We at SLR are
committed to address the all-important ROI to the sponsors after the COVID-19
pandemic, which had a major impact on all sports in the
country.
The proposed change will incorporate strategies that will address and inculcate
value propositions for all stakeholders. The Rugby fraternity is currently
starving for the resumption of the game. The indefatigable SLR committee looks
forward to Dialog to provide that required support to reach the pinnacle.”
Conclude Illyas.
