Pakistan High Commissioner donates Rugby items to Sri Lanka Rugby

The High Commissioner on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, gifted Pakistan made rugby balls & sports kits to Sri Lanka Rugby at a function graced by dignitaries from the Pakistan high commission and Sri Lanka Rugby.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Saad Khattak gifted the items to Mr. Lasitha Gunaratne, President of Sri Lanka Rugby at the premises of Sri Lanka Rugby. Also attending the event was Mr. Tanvir Ahmed (Deputy high commissioner), Ms. Assmma Kamal (Trade & Investment Attaché), Mr. Intisar Ahmed (Press Attaché), and Ms. Ayesha Abu Bakar Fahad (Second Secretary) for the Pakistan High commission in Sri Lanka. Mr. Thusitha Pieris (Secretary Sri Lanka Rugby) and Mr. Rohan Gunarathne (Managing Director, Sri Lanka Rugby) were present at the occasion. Several media personal also attended the event.

Mr. Lasitha Gunarathne appreciated and thanked the Government and people of Pakistan for this kind gesture. He stressed that Sri Lanka and Pakistan have always maintained a good relationship, and Pakistan has always supported Sri Lanka during difficult times. He further went on to say that Sri Lanka rugby would always support Pakistan in whatever way possible to uplift the game of Rugby in Pakistan through its expertise on trainers, educators and coaches. Mr. Gunarathne also requested the High commissioner to help facilitate Rugby as an event/sport in the next South Asian games (SAF) which will be hosted by Pakistan.


The High Commissioner speaking at the event emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two brotherly countries. He further said that Pakistan is committed to provide continued support to Sri Lanka in enhancing the younger generation’s nation building capacities with better sports opportunities. Both countries value this broad-based relationship due to its mutual benefits which will continue to strengthen in the years ahead. He went on to say, this donation is small gesture to further build the friendship between the two countries, and Pakistan will continue to support Sri Lanka always in whatever way possible. And would look forward to attending Rugby matches and tournaments whenever possible.
