Dialog Rugby League 2019/20
Police SC won a hard fought game
over Havelock SC 34 points to 28 in their second round game of the Dialog Rugby
League played at Police Park.
Police opened scoring with their forwards initiating play
for Shan Akila to touch down. The try was not converted.
Police played attacking Rugby with Fijian Emosi Vunivosa powering
his way for Yohan Peiris to score. Peiris himself added the extras. 12 points
to nil Police were leading.
Havies then came into the game through Shawket Lahir scoring
from a rolling maul. Sandesh Jayawickrama made the conversion.
A few minutes later Santhush Algama added 3 points from a
penalty to reduce the deficit for Havelock’s. 12 points to 10, Police
had a 2 point lead.
Havies winger Naveen Henakankanamage was given a red card
for a dangerous spear tackle on Emosi Vunivosa, which made the visitors play
with 14 men for the rest of the game. The penalty was taken by Yohan Peiris successfully.
Several mistakes in the last few minutes of the first
half cost Police 2 penalties and Mohan Wimalarathne was given the yellow. Santhush
Algama converted the penalties cleanly. At half time Havelock’s had a 1 point
lead, 16 points to 15.
Police got off to a good second half start from the
lineout for Hooker Rasith Silva to score. Replacement Janith Chandimal added the extras. Police
in the lead 22 points to 16.
The one man advantage helped Police with scrum half
Primesh Danushka scoring next from a loose ball. The conversion was
missed. 27 to 16 points Police lead.
Havies scored next when Shawket Lahir scored his 2nd
try of the game of a rolling maul. The extras were not added.
Police came back quickly with Suranga Kasun scoring to
maintain a sizable lead. Once again the conversion was missed. Police
still in the lead 32 points to 21.
Police lost Lahiru Pavithra to a yellow card next which
did not help them towards the end. Havies took advantage for Shawket Lahir to
power his way for his 3rd try. Jayawickrama added the extras.
Havelock’s were 7 points behind at this stage.
At the whistle Police held on to their lead to pick up a
big win over the fancied Havelock’s side.
