Navy SC hand Police SC a heavy defeat at Home

Dialog Rugby League 2019/20

Navy SC picked up an important victory over the high riding Police SC at Police Park, beating them 44 to 24 in the Dialog Rugby League played at Police Park.

Both teams made several changes, and 1 notable change was for Navy with the return of Yoshitha Rajapakse.

Navy took the early lead when Chathura Senevirathne went over the line. Isuru Kongahawatta failed to add the extras. Soon after that Navy won a penalty and Kongahawatta this time converted the penalty cleanly. Navy leading 08 nil.

Navy continued to break through the Police defense as Samith Dananjaya scored after Adeesha Weerathunga made a break from a scrappy line-out.

Soon after that Supun Dilshan scored when he went over for the third try for Navy. Kongahawatta made no mistake with both conversions. Police were taken by surprise from the Navy onslaught. Navy leading 22 nil.

Vageesha Weerasinghe though gave police the points then needed when he went over the line to score. Nalin Kumara failed to add the extras. 22 to 05 Navy lead.

But Navy continued to dominate when Mushin Faleel scored an excellent try to complete the bonus try. Kongahawatta who has been in excellent form made no mistake converting. 29 to 05 Navy lead.

It was star player Chathura Senevirathne who powered his way next through the Police defense to score. Kongahawatta did the needful to add the extras.

Thereafter Stephan Gregory was sent to the bin, and Police capitalized with Shan Akila going over the line. The try was converted cleanly. 29 to 12 Navy still leading.

Navy scored again on the brink of the 1st half. At the break Navy were leading 34 points to 12

Police started the second half well when Rasith Silva scored for the home team. Nalin Kumara made the conversion this time cleanly.

Thereafter Mushin Faleel scored his second try of the game breaking the Police defense. Isuru Kongahawatta made no mistake with the conversion.  41 to 19 Navy lead.

Police managed to score their 4th try of the game when Muammar Deen went over the line. This was not converted.

Next Yoshitha Rajapakse won a penalty as Police were penalized for holding on at the breakdown. Kongahawatta added the 3 Points. 44 to 19 Navy well ahead.

Either team could not break further ground as Police faced probably their worst performance this season. This was a big win for the Navy team playing away from home.
