Army SC hold Police SC to an important draw

Dialog Rugby League 2019/20

Army SC held second placed Police SC to a 26 all draw at the Army grounds ending the first round matches for both teams in the Dialog Rugby League this season.

There were several changes to both teams, Police SC were hampered with a few injury concerns which forced them to change the lineup.

Police SC stared proceedings well scoring 2 early tries. Sachith Silva scored both tries with Fijian Emosi Vunivosa making things easy to set up the first try.

Nalin Kumara made no mistake with both conversions. Police was leading by 14 points to nil fifteen minutes into the game. 

Dhanushka Thalwatta was in action soon after scoring the 1st try for Army. In the process Vunivosa was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle.  

Few minutes later Tomasi Caqusau gathered a bouncing ball to score the 2nd try. Sachin Gamage made the conversions cleanly. Scores were leveled at 14 all.  

Lahiru Pavithra was next sent to the bin once again reducing Police to 14 men. Caqusau showed his power and class as he powered his way through the Police defense, to score once again. Ashan Bandara made no mistake with the conversion. Army in the lead, 21 to 14.

Police did not hold back, and scored quickly with Vunivosa leading the way for Vihanga Pavithra to touch down. The conversion was made cleanly. At half time it was tied at 21 points each.

 

The second half was much slower compared to the first half with both teams tightening their defense.

Sudaraka Dikkubura scored first for Army working their backline to dive over the line.  The conversion was missed. Army were in the lead though 26 to 21.

Police scored their first try of the second half through Danushka Edirisuriya, who powered his way through the Army defense to score. It was an important conversion and Sachith Silva failed to deliver. Scores tied at 26 all.

A few minutes later Army fullback Sachin Gamage was sent to the bin giving Police a 1 man advantage but which they could not capitalize on.

Both teams failed to score thereafter ending the game in a draw.
