Dialog Rugby League 2019/20
Kandy SC continued to dominate
and lead the points table in the Dialog Rugby League with another win over CH
& FC by 33 points to 10, when they faced each other at the Racecourse
Grounds in Colombo.
CH & FC who started proceedings well, kept attacking
the Kandy defense. Things didn’t go the visitor’s way when Ganuka Dissanayake was
sent to the sin-bin. CH continued to hold possession inside the Kandy half and scored
when Sajith Saranga crossed the line to put points on the board. Samuel
Maduwantha failed with the conversion.
But Samuel Maduwantha made amends quickly when CH won a
penalty which he cleared cleanly to give them an 8 point lead.
Kandy got their breakthrough with Jason Dissanayake scoring
for the visitors. Tarinda Ratwatte made no mistake with the conversion to put Kandy
just behind by 1 point, Kandy 07 to CH 08.
Kandy started to play their usual game there onwards with
Buddhima Piyarathne scoring under the post. Tarinda Ratwatte added the 2 points
to give them the lead, 14 to 08.
Kandy played the scrum well to execute the next try
courtesy Tarinda Ratwatte to make a diving effort. He made no mistake with the
extras. 19 points to 08, Kandy was widening the gap.
In the final minute of the 1st half an
opportunity was missed by Maduwantha’s with a penalty. Scores at Half time Kandy 19 to CH & FC
08.
It didn’t take
long for Kandy to start scoring in the 2nd half, with Tarinda
Ratwatte scoring and converting his own try.
Skipper Rohitha Rajapaksha managed to put some control to
the game in the 50th minute of play, scoring near the Kandy whitewash. Samuel
Maduwantha failed to gain the additional 2 points once again. CH trailing 13 points to 26.
Kandy came back with Buwaneka Udangamuwa touching down
with the help of the forwards through a scrum. Tarinda Ratwatte failed to
bisect the posts. Kandy lead 31 to
13.
Thereafter both teams could not score until the final
whistle.
Kandy SC continue their winning streak in the Dialog
Rugby League 2019/20, and will face Havelocks SC in their final first round
fixture next weekend.
