Dialog Rugby League 2019/20
Kandy SC continued where they
left off in 2019 going on to beat rivals CR & FC 41 points to 27 in a much
looked forward game in the Dialog Rugby League to kick of the New Year.
The game was played at Longdon Place. Kandy
started off with Kavindu Perera touching down to post the first points of the
game. Tharinda Ratwatte made no mistake with the
conversion.
Kandy took further control of the game when Buddima
Piyarathne made a break and combined with Danusha Dayan who scored the second
try. Ratwatte converted cleanly once again to extend the lead to 14. Soon after
that Kandy won a penalty which Ratwatte once again sent through the post. Kandy
leading 10 points to Nil.
Kandy were strong in the front line, with their forwards
controlling the game. This set up Roshan Weerarathne who scored under the post.
Ratwatte added the extras once again.
Finally CR opened their scoring through a Riza Mubarak
penalty. But Kandy showed their power once again with Danusha Dayan scoring his
2nd try. Kandy leading 29 – 03.
CR & FC gained some ground when scrum half Kavindu De
Costa made a break through the Kandy defense to score their 1st try for
the game. Riza Mubarak sent the conversion cleanly. Kandy were still ahead by
19 points, 29 to 10.
Kandy flanker Tharindu Chathuranga was sent to the bin
with a yellow, but still the visitors capitalized with Skipper Nigel Ratwatte opening
the gap for Jason Dissanayake to dive over the line. The extra were added.
Kandy ended a super 1st half, 36 to 10.
CR gathered themselves and came into the game strongly in
the 2nd half to open scoring. The CR forwards made ground for Supun
Waranakulasuriya to dive from the tail of a maul to score.
Jason Dissanayake was next sent to the bin for
infringement in the rolling maul. CR continued their way forward with the
rolling maul option and winning another penalty which was converted. The gap reduced to 14
points. Kandy 36, CR 22.
CR came back with Janidu Dilshan scoring yet again
reducing the deficit. But Kandy held their own and scored through Tharinda
Ratwatte in the final moments to seal the game.
