Dialog Rugby League 2019/20
CR & FC continued their
dominant performance this season to stay unbeaten with yet another win against
Army SC to beat them by 33 points to 10, in their final league fixture for the
year 2019 in the Dialog Rugby League. The game was played at Longdon Place.
There was some attacking rugby from both teams right from
the start, but it was CR & FC who drew first blood through a penalty in the
12th minute of play by Riza Mubarak.
Soon after that Army SC managed to come back quickly with
a try from Manoj Bandara under the post. Isuru Medagadara made no mistake with
the conversion. Army in the lead 07

Army continued to pile on the pressure on the home team,
but CR managed to win a penalty which was successfully converted by Riza
Mubarak in the 18th minute. At
that time it was just a 1 point difference between the teams.
In the 31st minute of play Riza Mubarak took
CR into the lead with another penalty. Scores read, 09 - 07.
The game was moving forward with penalties for both
teams. Isuru Madagedara converted cleanly for Army to collect 3 points. But nothing
could stop star kicker Riza Mubarak, as he sent through another penalty to keep
CR in the lead 12 - 10 at first half.
Janidu Dilshan started the 2nd half in
excellent fashion to score first for CR, while Riza Mubarak once again did the
honors to add the extras points. CR were
leading 19 - 10.
CR extended their lead in the 49th minute when Supun
Warnakulasuriya moved over the whitewash with the help of his forwards to score.
Riza Mubarak continued his successful kicking spree with another 2 points. CR in the lead 26 - 10.
With Thusitha Senanayake for Army sent
to the sin bin CR had the chance to capitalize,
but could not do so. Soon after that the CR skipper Omalka Gunaratne was given
the yellow card as well in the 52nd minute.
Reeza Rafaideen scored his 1st try of the game
to extend the lead for CR near the corner flag, and Riza Mubarak fired through his
7th conversion in the game. CR at
that time had a comfortable lead of 33 – 10.
CR held on to the lead to register their
4th consecutive win in the Dialog Rugby league. With this win CR & FC
stay unbeaten in 2019 and move into 2020 with confidence.
