After a disappointing loss in the cup semifinal to Thailand the ladies won the bronze medal competition beating Singapore 24-05.
Sri Lanka gave away the defending crown in an all important cup semifinals against Thailand. Islanders beat the Thai ladies twice in the last years competition, however, after leading 12 points to nil at the half time could not hold on to the defense as Thailand storm in to a 19 - 12 win.
Winger Dulani Pallikondage scored the first try cutting wide from the far corner to open the account. Former captain Ayesha Perera made a scintillating 95m try with some individual brilliance. Ayesha Kaluarachchi converted the second try. Since then it was all Thailand who scored two tries to level the game 12 all. Sri Lanka women was on the back foot and the valiant defensive effort was in vain as Thailand scored the winning try with the hooter.
As a result Sri Lanka played had to settle for the bronze medal competition over Singapore-Select. Sri Lanka has beaten Singapore often in the recent past and this time too was on song. Ladies scored 4 tries but could not keep the opposition scoreless despite claiming the bronze medal
