Dialog Rugby League 2019/20
Havelock Sports Club went on to earn a
comfortable victory in the opening game of the Dialog Rugby League 2019/20
against Navy Sports Club at Welisara.
Navy SC opened
scoring through an Isuru Kongahawaththa penalty to take an early lead of 3
points. But Havelocks came back strongly through their forwards and Hooker
Azmir Fajudeen crashed over the line for the first try of the game. Prince
Chamara obliged with the conversion to take Havies into the lead.
Soon after that
Havies scrum half Mithun Hapugoda managed to get past the Navy SC defenders for
the 2nd try, which was converted by Prince Chamara to increase the lead.
The red shirts went on to
score their 3rd try in the first half when Randy
Silva powered over the line for Prince Chamara to once again make the
conversion. At Half Time the score read 21 - 03 in favor of Havelocks.
The 2nd
half did not start well for the Sailors. Rukmal Fernando took advantage of a
long pass and sped down the right wing to touch down. Prince Chamara who played
a pivotal role in that try made no mistake once again to further the lead.
With rain coming
down hard it made conditions tough for both teams. But Havelocks managed to secure
their fifth try when Dinushan Ariyapala touched down center field in the dying moments
of the game.
Score at Full Time:
NAVY SC - 03 (1 Penalty) / Havelock SC - 35 (5 converted Tries)
