World Rugby together with the Japan Rugby Union have
invited two young Sri Lankans to witness the Rugby World cup live in Japan.
This wonderful gesture was open to all Asian Rugby playing countries. Each
country can send 1 male and 1 female to Japan. The entire cost for the tour is
sponsored by World Rugby and Japan Rugby Union.
Radesh Wijeratne Abeysiri from Royal College Colombo and Chamodya Madumali Withanage from Galle were the lucky students to be selected.
Radesh plays Rugby at Royal College, and Chamodya is a part of the Ruhunu
Province U-18 7's Rugby team.
The two were selected by a panel
appointed by Sri Lanka Rugby. The Panel was chaired by Mr. Ajith Abeyratne.
The two Sri Lankans will be in
Japan for 3 days, and are accompanied by Col. Dammika Gunasekara (Retd), the
Chairman Women’s Rugby Development Committee.
It is a great opportunity for these
two young Sri Lankan's to watch their favorite countries and players live, and
to be a part of a once in life time opportunity.
Sri Lanka Rugby is thankful to World
Rugby and the Japan Rugby Union for the invitation and taking care of all cost,
whilst wishing both a wonderful world cup in Japan.
