A 12 member Sri Lankan Women's
squad for the upcoming Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2nd Leg to be held
in China was named under the captaincy of Sanjeewani De Silva.
3 changes have been made to the
squad that participated in the 1st leg. Randika Kumudumali, Shanika Madumali and Ayesha Perera
miss out this time. In place coming into the squad are Nadeeka Munasinghe, Kumari Dilrukshi and Dilini Kanchana.
The Sri
Lankan women's team ended up in 6th place after losing the plate
final to Thailand. Earlier on in the tournament they impressive wins against
Malaysia and Singapore. The women will be looking forward to an improved
performance in China
Sudath
Sampath will continue as the Head Coach of the team. Also on tour will be Ruwani Deepika
(Medical Person), Amila Chathuranga and Shela De Saram
assisting in the team management and logistics.
The Asia Rugby Series 2nd Leg will be held at the
Huizhou Olympic Stadium, Huizhou, Guangdong, China on the 14th and
15th September. With the 3rd leg scheduled to be held in
Colombo on 28th and 29th September.
The women's
segment will have teams participating from Japan, People's Republic of China,
Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea and Sri Lanka.
