Sri Lanka Rugby together with World Rugby have commenced several
programs in the month of August to further strengthen and develop players, coaches, doctors and others involved
in rugby by Conducting Training &
Education Programs.
The programs are handled by Master Trainer, Gene Tong - World
Rugby Regional Training Manager (Asia). Under these programs several Training
and Education programs will be conducted.
The 1st program was the World Rugby Strength and Conditioning Level 2 program, which was
conducted from the 8th to 11th August at the Crossfit
Fitness Center, Pelawaththa. The Course was conducted for the first time in Sri
Lanka.
World Rugby Educators Takahiro Murakami from Japan and Lewis
Chua from Singapore conducted the Strength and Conditioning program. They were
assisted by Sri Lankan Educators Mothilal Jayathilake and Ananda
Kasthuriarachchi.
The 4 days program was very intense and grinding. Both Theory
and practical were a part of the training program. 1 female and 18 males
undertook the program. Club, school coaches and prominent rugby players were
among them.
Sanju
Wijethilaka (female), Kapila Munasinghe, Sunimal Mananperi, Duminda Silva,
Shanath De Silva, Harsha Fernando, Henry Terance, Gayan Weerarathna, Dilan
Soyza, Norton Motha, Kavindu De Costa, Dinesh Kumara, Amantha Perera, Sathya
Ranathunga, Rayan Weerakoon, Mangala Udawaththa, USM Arshan, Saliya Hadapangoda
and Imran Thalpage were the participants.
The next
program is the World Rugby Coaching Seven's - Level - 2, which will be followed by the World Rugby Trainer Course.
