Sri Lanka under the leadership of Srinarth Sooriyabandara will
be taking the field with lot of expectation from the home crowd on October 13
at the third and the last leg of the Asian Sevens Series 2018 at the Racecourse
rugby grounds.
Writing is on the wall as Sri Lanka had no way of becoming
number 1 beating Japan and Hong Kong that is reality a number three position is
on the card. But this means we could be left out of the Hong Kong Sevens 2019
with the top 2 only booking their berth.
Coming in the third leg Sri Lanka were number 3 in Hong Kong but
dropped badly to 6 in South Korea even losing out to the Philippines in the
plate final which is really hard to believe. Coming into the third leg return
of Ranjan, Gayan and Kavindu could do a world of difference for the team
experience holding wealth of sevens experience in the Asian Region. Sri Lanka
will need to get the better of Taipei and China and Hong Kong battle will
decide the semi-final opponent. Hong Kong always a tough outfit and we have
hardly beaten them in sevens or fifteens but a good opportunity to bring them
to earth with a win in Colombo this weekend in the group encounter.
Both Sri Lanka Men's and Women's outfit trained at the CR &
FC grounds both in the morning and evening.
